SQL Server Readiness Report

A fixed-fee, read-only assessment of one SQL Server instance. From GRD13 Consulting LLC.

What it is

The report answers three questions in writing: is your SQL Server still supported by Microsoft, would your backups actually restore, and who can reach the data. I run one read-only script against one instance, then send you a findings report of 12 to 20 pages. Every finding states what was observed, why it matters in money and risk, and what fixing it involves.

It is written for the person who has to answer those questions for an auditor, an insurer, or a customer security review, and who has no database administrator on staff to ask. The script makes no changes. Every statement in it is a SELECT, and your security reviewer can read the whole thing in five minutes before it runs.

What you provide

• Permission to run one read-only script against one instance.
• A login with VIEW SERVER STATE, VIEW ANY DEFINITION, and read access to msdb. Not sysadmin.
• 45 minutes on a call, once.

What you get back

• A findings report, PDF, typically 12 to 20 pages.
• Each finding: what was observed, why it matters in money and risk, what fixing it involves, and how much work that is.
• Findings mapped to PCI, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 controls, and to common insurance-questionnaire items.
• A single risk score you can put in front of a board.
• The raw findings as a CSV, so your team can work the list directly.
• A 45-minute readout call to walk the critical items.

Price and turnaround

The assessment is $995, fixed. No hourly billing and no change orders within the scope above. Collection is scheduled within three business days of your go-ahead, and the report follows within five business days of the collection session. If it contains fewer than three findings I would class as high or critical, you do not pay.
